A "Big Year" Ahead
I've been thinking over the past couple of days about doing a "Big Year" this year and decided to go for it. I am going to try for 400 species for 2011. I will start my year off birding in Centre County, PA while I am at Penn State University. In March, I will be in Nebraska for a week and therefore I will be able to pick up quite a few birds there. I accepted a position working with Willow Flycatchers in the Southwestern U.S. and will be able to see around 200 species there. I think that 400 species is very doable and may try for 425 or more! My first day birding in 2011 will be tomorrow only for a few hours, but I am hoping to pick up around 25 species.
