Spring Migration is Underway

Over the past week or two, I have been seeing reports of Pine Warblers, Palm Warblers, Brown Thrashers, Eastern Phoebes, and multiple species of shorebirds showing up across the state of Pennsylvania. I have not been able to get out very much over the last couple of weeks due to my school work piling up. Anyways, I was able to make my way out to Colyer Lake Recreation Area today to observe four Surf Scoters that were reported earlier this morning. There were three males and one female present at the lake as well as many other species of waterfowl. A few Eastern Phoebes and Osprey were making their rounds around the lake.

On our way back to State College, we stopped by a flooded field at Nittany Farms off Rt. 322. A Pectoral Sandpiper, three Greater Yellowlegs, and a Blue-winged Teal were present in the flooded field.

At the end of the day, I added five new species to my year list. I am looking to add a few more this weekend to my yard list as well as my year list.
